Over the last twenty years, we’ve shot hundreds of interviews. So we’ve seen first hand what works and what doesn’t. Video interviews are one of the most effective ways to connect with your audience. A well-done video interview can help the viewer form a positive impression about you and your company. In order to give your interview the best chance of success, here are a few tips.
First, and this may surprise you…DON’T overprepare. Sure, a little practice may be in order, but don’t try to memorize long sections of content, or practice to the point that it sounds stiff and rehearsed. We will talk in advance about the info you want to cover, and guide you by asking open-ended questions that will help get you going and keep you on track.
Second, RELAX!!! The best interviews are relaxed and conversational. If you’re talking about your business, pretend you’ve bumped into an old friend at a class reunion and they asked what you do. Your response would be casual, friendly, and completely at ease.
Third, be PASSIONATE! The people we interview are usually very passionate about what they do. Everyone loves to listen to someone speak about their passion, so tap into that while on camera! An added benefit is that passion implies expertise. People aren’t usually passionate about things they don’t do well. So, show your passion and you will be viewed as a passionate expert delivering important information.
And finally, one bonus tip. PLEASE don’t read or even refer to notes while on camera. It is distracting, unprofessional, and a sure-fire way to lose your audience. We’ve got your back when it comes to nailing an interview. Give us a call and let’s spread the word about your business!
